Describing the content of this book proves somewhat challenging in its unique traits; in his re-telling of classic stories the Author also includes historical footnotes for contextualization and detail. The Author’s preface gives insight to this decision.
“I have transferred to the Isthmian Games, of which we know very little, some details of the proceedings at the great festival of Olympia. In the other parts of the story I have endeavored to keep as closely as possible to what is known, or, at least, probable. The chronology of St. Paul’s life is very uncertain; but the date which I have chosen is, I believe, accepted by some writers. In any case I may plead the license allowed to the exigencies of fiction.”
This copy has a few identifying characteristics, there is an inscription on the inside which is dated April (?), 12, 1925.
On the bottom left of the same page there is a small oval sticker noting that the book used to be in the Old Corner Book Store, 27-29 Bromfiled St. in Boston MA.
All of the illustrations in this edition are in beautiful shape.
Foxing on the pages themselves goes in until about page 25 varying in intensity from moderate to very mild. There is also, however, foxing on the outside of the pages.
The spine appears to be in very good condition with the boards and pages securely in place without any alarming looseness. The external condition of the front and back boards are good, the back has some spotted discoloration in where the spots appear darker. There is some of this on the front as well but it is not as noticeable. Only the bottom right corner of the back board as an noticeable curve, though very small. Only the top of the spine shows a little wear with a slight tear of about just under a centimeter long.
